Genelia Dsouza Biography
Born on 5th August 1987 in Mumbai, Genelia D’Souza belongs to a family of Mangalorean Catholic. She was raised in Suburb of Mumbai called Bandra as a Roman Catholic. Her father name is Neil D’Souza and holds a senior position in Tata Consultancy Services. Her mother name is Jeanette D'Souza who was previously with Pharma Multi-National Corporation as a managing director. Her brother name is Nigel D'Souza who is younger to her and works with Bombay Stock Exchange. In an interview Genelia mentioned that her name is a combination of her parents’ name –Jeanette and Neil and her name means Unique or Rare.
Nicknamed Geenu, Genelia Dsouza did her schooling from Apostolic Carmel High School in Mumbai and college from St. Andrew's College, Mumbai. She completed her college while shooting for her first movie Tujhe Meri Kasam in the year 2003 and her first thoughts were to get a job with a multi-national company. She was very keen in both sports and studies during her college times and was a sprinter, state level athlete and football player at national level.
Genelia Dsouza got her first modelling assignment at an age of 15, as a result of being noticed as a bridesmaid during a wedding. She got selected for the Parker Pen advertisement with Amitabh Bachchan and got lot of appreciation for the commercial. She is brand ambassador of brands like Virgin Mobile India, LG Mobiles, Fanta, Margo, Garnier Light and Perk.
Apart from acting and modelling Genelia Dsouza has also hosted a reality show called Big Switch. She was part of eBay’s Dream House 2010 challenge where with a budget of Rs.4.5 Lakh she decorated an empty 3 room house in Bandra in a beautiful place through online shopping. On Children’s day, Genelia auctioned few stuff from the apartment and the amount received from the same was donated to Aseema; a NGO with aim to offer education to disadvantaged children’s.
