Kajol Biography

Kajol was born on 5th August 1974 in Mumbai to Tanuja Samart a popular Indian actress and Shomu Mukherjee, a Bengali writer, producer and director. She is Marathi from her maternal side and Bengali from her paternal side. Names of her paternal uncles are Deb Mukherjee and Joy Mukherjee who are film producers by profession and her paternal grandfather name is Sashadhar Mukherjee who was a film maker. Kajol’s paternal grandmother was Satirani Devi who was sister of Anoop Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Her cousins Mohnish Behl, Sharbani Mukherjee and Rani Mukherjee also work in Bollywood, whereas Ayan Mukherjee her cousin is a director.

Tanisha Mukherjee is her younger sister who is also a Bollywood actress. Nutan one of the legendary actress in Indian film industry is her maternal aunt with whom Kajol holds record for winning five times the award for Filmfare Best Actress Award. Ratan Bai her maternal great grandmother and Shobhna Samarth her grandmother were both involved in Hindi film industry. Her father Shomu Mukherjee died on 10th April 2008 due to cardiac arrest.

Kajol was awarded Padma Shri by the government of India for her involvement and contribution to Indian Film Industry. Kajol got married to Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan on 24th February 1999. They dated each other for many years before deciding to tie the knot. They have two lovely children, one daughter named Nysa born in 2003 and son called Yug born in 2010.

Kajol studied from St. Josephs convent in Panchgani and at the age of seventeen she began her acting career. Her first movie was Bekhudi which was released in the year 1992; however the movie was a box office failure. Over the years Kajol has worked in many super hit movies with big film houses and talented co-stars. She is considered as the most natural and talented actress in Indian film industry.
