Mohammad Rafi Biography
Mohammad Rafi is a name which does not need any kind of introduction. His name says it all. He was one of the greatest playback singers of all time. A lot of singers who came later than him in the industry regarded him as their role model. A large number of wannabe singers in India always looked up to him for motivation. On 24th December, 1924, the legend Mohammad Rafi was born in a small village near Amritsar. From his childhood days, he had a passion for singing but no one took his voice seriously until his brother in law Abdul Hameed heard him.
In the year 1944, Mohammad Rafi moved to Mumbai with Abdul Hameed. Slowly and gradually, he began making contacts in the film industry. He sang a large number of songs and duets. In 4 decades of his career, Mohammad Rafi sang around twenty eight thousand songs in various languages. Mohammad Rafi sang various kinds of songs like romantic songs, ghazals, quawallis and patriotic songs etc. Mohammad Rafi also recorded a few songs in foreign languages like Spanish and Dutch. Rafi sang various songs for famous actors Dev Anand and Guru Dutt.
Mohammad Rafi received a large number of awards in his lifetime. National award and Padma Shri award was given to him by Indian government. Mohammad Rafi also bagged six film fare awards for his singing talent. Mohammad Rafi was such a good singer that he sang 6 songs for Kishore Kumar who was himself a singer apart from being an actor. He also tried his hands in acting by doing small roles in 2 movies. Mohammad Rafi was nominated 23 times for film fare awards. On 31st July, 1980; Mohammad Rafi died due to a heart attack. A large number of people from film industry and other walks of life attended his funeral which took place in Mumbai. Mohammad Rafi will live forever in the memories of people and his songs.
