Sonam Kapoor Biography
Lovingly nicknamed as Giraffe by her father, Sonam Kapoor was born on 9th June 1985 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is the daughter of famous actor Anil Kapoor and ex model Sunita Kapoor and granddaughter of film maker Surinder Kapoor. Her uncles are producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor. She has two siblings – brother Harshwardhana and Sister Rhea.
Sonam Kapoor is fluent in English and Hindi language and can speak Marathi and Punjabi as well. Sonam has always been a very extrovert child; in order to get attention of people around her, she use to entertain them, so that she could be centre of attraction. She did her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir in Mumbai and then got admission to study International Baccalaureate in United World College of South East Asia. Since her family has been deeply involved in film industry, from a very early age she made up her mind to become an actress.
Sonam Kapoor learned Kathak for almost 12 years and studied theatre in Singapore for two years. Post her return from Singapore; she joined as an assistant; director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the making of the movie Black and gained knowledge in the skill of filmmaking. Sonam use to be overweight while she was assisting director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, however Bhansali saw the potential in her as an actress and promised if she loses weight, he will cast her in his next movie. For the same, Sonam worked hard to lose all those extra kilos and lost 30 Kgs of her 90 Kgs. After she shed all those extra kilos, she looked a beauty. She made her debut as an actress in the movie Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Today Sonam happens to be one of the most stylish and sought after actress in Hindi cinema. She is a style icon and endorses brands like Loreal.
After coming back from Singapore Sonam Kapoor joined Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant for the making of the film Black and gained insight into the art of filmmaking. Sonam was overweight while she was assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali but the genius of Bhansali spotted the fire and ambition of Sonam and offered her to play the lead role in his forthcoming venture Saanwariya. Sonam Kapoor took the challenge seriously and went for dieting and weight reduction under the expert supervision of her mother and Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. She worked very hard to shed her extra fat to look fit for her role in the film and finally managed to loose 30 kgs from previous 90kg. After loosing those extra kilos Sonam looked like a statuesque beauty at 5’ 9 ½.
From the early childhood Sonam developed a knack of reading, she was so fond of reading that her librarian use to advise her to reduce her reading habit otherwise she would have to wear glasses. Maybe due to her habit of reading she developed the art of writing and she is a good writer. Simultaneously she developed the skill of painting too and developed it well. With many actors taking up the brush for social causes and whatever other reasons these days, Sonam too has the world as her canvas.
As the time of release of her film comes near more and more people are getting anxious to know about her.
