Vidya Balan BiographyVidya Balan was born on 1st January 1978 in Palakkad District, Kerala. Her father name is P. R. Balan and he is vice president of ETC channel; her mother is a home maker and her elder sister name is Priya. She has an aunt whose name is Raji Raju. Her family relocated to Chembur Mumbai when Vidya was small. As tradition in many Tamil-Iyer families, both Balan sisters learned from early childhood days Carnatic dance. However as Vidya is not a morning person and prefer to sleep late on Sunday mornings she opted out of the classes very soon. The Balan family speaks mix of Tamil and Malayalam at home however Vidya is well versed in Bengali, English and Hindi.
Vidya Balan did her schooling from St. Anthony Convent and post that she studied in in St. Xavier's College where she did major in Sociology. Further she went on to study in Bombay University to get Masters in Sociology. She has studied as well as performed in many workshops of Prithvi Theaters’. While in college she was offered role in Malayalam film called Chakram opposite Mohanlal who happens to be Vidya’s one of the favourite actors. However the movie was shelved half-way and she had to wait for some more years for her debut.
In the year 1998, Vidya Balan debuted as model in Surf Excel advertisement. She has done many advertisements most of which have been directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Post this she featured in music videos again directed by Pradeep Sarkar. These videos were of Pankaj Udhas, Shubha Mudgal and Euphorio. She also worked in Television in serials like Hum Paanch and Hanste Khelte. She is connected with Hale House, a place for kids born with HIV as well as kids fighting drug addiction. Moreover she is also working with AmFar (Americans for AIDS Research) and Harvard AIDS Institute.
